Ten of an eventual twenty hectares of restructured terraces were completed before the début 2007 harvest. Vines are primarily Mencía, soils 100% decomposing red slate. Southern exposure, steep inclination and reflection from the Os Peares reservoir provide for ample grape maturity. Finca Míllara incorporates 30% old-vine fruit from established vineyards on the estate along with fruit from the reconstructed terraces and is aged 12 months in used French oak. Lagariza Mencía is from selected fruit seeking a fresh style, aged three months in used barrel.

An ambitious yet intimately remote wine estate (to which one usually arrives by boat), Finca Míllara is the dream of Fernando de Santiago, a lifelong wine professional with a family business in La Coruña, Spain. De Santiago had fallen in love with the emerging, dramatic and nearly inaccessible Ribeira Sacra wine district, an historically significant wine region that had been virtually abandoned due to the dubious economy of farming the steep slopes during the difficult years of post-Civil War Spain. In the 1990s, renewed interest in Ribeira Sacra, fostered by tourism combined with a new awareness of Spanish wines, gave rise to a D.O. encompassing the steep canyons of the Miño and Sil Rivers and their confluence. In 2000, de Santiago began purchasing parcels in the uninhabited hamlet of A Míllara overlooking the Miño, eventually acquiring the entire township and its surrounding slopes from hundreds of proprietary descendants living in South America and other distant locales. Reclaiming and restructuring the vineyard terraces began in earnest, and restoration of A Míllara itself—following strict guidelines to maintain original architecture—incorporated the modern winemaking and aging facility.

Lagariza (2011) - "Brilliant ruby. Pungent, mineral-accented aromas of black raspberry, cola, licorice and dried flowers. Racy and precise but concentrated too, offering energetic red and dark berry flavors that become sweeter with air. Shows excellent clarity on the finish, which features fine-grained tannins and a sexy floral nuance. "

Sappy blackberry and bitter cherry flavors are braced and lifted by juicy acidity, picking up a sexy violet pastille nuance with air. Finca Míllara Mencía (2007) - "This is a terrific rendition of Spain's marvelous Mencia grape, which is gaining renown for turning out remarkable wines from very old vines in appellations like Bierzo and, in this case, Ribeira Sacra. This rendition runs true to form, showing a rather tight, high-acid profile when first uncorked, but responding very well within an hour to double decanting (meaning, pouring the wine vigorously into a decanter and then returning it to the bottle via a funnel). It softens and picks up weight when aerated and shows very good concentration and depth of flavor, with dark cherry fruit that is at once ripe but fresh and pure, along with accents of spices and smoke and slatey minerals. Sure to improve for a decade, this is a very impressive wine and a great introduction to the breed for those who've yet to experience top-shelf Mencia."

Finca Míllara Mencía (2007) - "Finca Míllara's 2007 Mencía is the estate's debut vintage. It spent 12 months in new French oak and is deep purple in color. The nose gives up an iron-like minerality, brooding black raspberries, smoke, and floral notes. Sweet, supple, and concentrated on the palate, this lengthy effort has enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years and will offer a drinking window extending through 2019."
