OVERVIEW
Bodegas Adriá was established in 2002 by a local winemaking family working in Bierzo since the 1930s for the specialized production of high quality wines. Working closely with the best sources in the Bierzo region growing old vine Mencía grapes, full-bodied and richly textured red wines expressing Bierzo's mineral soils and fresh climate are obtained.

HISTORY
Bodegas Adriá was constituted in its present form in 2002, marked by the construction of a modern facility for the production of highest quality Bierzo wines. Adriá’s roots date to 1940 and the founding of Bodegas Francisco Pérez Adriá by a native of Valencia who had fallen in love with Bierzo wines. The original bodega, dedicated to the production of bulk wines, exists side by side with the new one on the outskirts of Villafranca del Bierzo along the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.
Bodegas Adriá possesses fifty acres of vines between eight and twenty years old, the majority planted with the white Godello, a noble variety that is locally scarce. Mencía grapes from old vines in the best hillside regions are also contracted, subject to rigorous selection and qualification upon arrival to the bodega. Wines are fermented with their natural yeasts under temperature control, seeking maximum fruit intensity and flavor extract.

PRESS
Vega Montán (2010) - "The 2010 Vega Montán Mencía, underbrush, beef blood, spice box, and assorted black fruits lead to a lively, ripe, tasty effort that provides excellent value in a wine that will provide enjoyment for another 3-4 years."

Vega Montán (2009) - "Deep ruby. Ripe cherry and blackcurrant on the nose, with complicating notes of licorice, black tea and dried violet. Musky dark fruit flavors are lifted by tangy acidity and show a deeper plum note on the back end. Round and smooth on the finish, which leaves a bitter cherry note behind."

Vega Montán (2008) - "Shy at first, this Bierzo offers subtle red fruit flavors, then opens into a creamy, smooth texture. The finish balances acidity with sweet flavors that recall raspberries and caramel. A mencía to serve with braised tripe.
