Peza do Rei Godello (2015) - "This white gold colored Godello based wine from Spain is very good. It opens with a fain grapefruit and lime bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and slightly viscous. The flavor profile is a tasty mild green apple and mineral blend with hints of quince and white peach. The finish is dry and its flavors drift away nicely. This wine is very food friendly and a bit of a quaffer. I would pair with chicken piccata. Enjoy —Ken"

This is tightly wound, with an acidic backbone. Flavors of white peach, pithy citrus and mild bitterness finish with a waxy but firm texture. It's 70% Godello with Treixadura and Albariño. "

Peza do Rei Godello (2014) - "Pale, green-tinged yellow. Potent mineral-accented lime and pear aromas are complicated by suggestions of jasmine and fennel. Chewy, concentrated and dry, showing nervy citrus and orchard fruit flavors and a refreshingly bitter quinine quality that builds in the glass. Nicely marries power to finesse, finishing bright, minerally and very long, with a sexy floral nuance."

Peza do Rei Godello (2013) - "Bright straw. Fresh pear, melon and tangerine on the fragrant nose, with a minerally nuance that gains power with air. Smooth and dry in the mouth, offering bitter citrus pith and pear skin flavors and a touch of tarragon. The pear note comes back strong on the finish, which clings with very good tenacity and focus. I like the blend of power and finesse here. I also had the chance to revisit the excellent 2012 Peza do Rei Mencia Ribeira Sacra that I reviewed last year and while it still has plenty of life ahead of it, it's pretty delicious now, with lively berry fruit and a refreshing jolt of minerality that bodes well for the wine's future development. "

The flavor profile is a mild lime and pear blend with hints of white pepper and minerality. The finish is dry and rather refreshing. This Spanish white wine is food friendly and would pair perfectly with grilled swordfish. Enjoy."

A medium-bodied blend of 70% Godello, 20% Treixadura and 10% Albariño, it shows a wonderful balance of substantial weightiness with acidic definition. Notes recalling stone fruits and ripe apples provide deep, lasting flavors in the midpalate, with citrus notes providing cut and definition in the finish. Subtle but very interesting mineral tinges mark the finish, which is persistent and symmetrical. Complete and convincing in every respect, this is so well balanced that it would be wonderful with all sorts of fish and shellfish dishes."

ADEGA CACHíN / PEZA DO REI WINERY INFO

Overview: The César Enriquez family is among the core group of founding growers of what was to become D.O. Ribeira Sacra, reconstituting their vineyard site to noble varieties from the early 1990s. Peza do Rei is a medieval walled vineyard and woodlands estate taking its name from the Kings of León, for whom it served as an income source and private hunting retreat. Within the extant albeit crumbling medieval walls are twelve acres of vertiginous, single-row slate terraces forming a perfect south-facing amphitheater on the Edo River tributary of the Sil. Varieties planted are Mencía for reds, Godello, Treixadura and Albariño for whites.

History: Ribeira Sacra and its Sil River Canyon must be counted among the world's most spectacular wine regions. Upon visiting, there is no choice but to be convinced of the region's potential to produce supremely expressive and individualistic wines. Twelve acres of vertiginous, single-row slate terraces form a perfect south-facing amphitheater on the Edo River tributary of the Sil. Varieties planted are Mencía for reds, Godello, Treixadura and Albariño for whites. The modern bodega, with a capacity for 50,000 bottles, is excavated into a hillside for complete temperature insulation, and boasts thoroughly updated winemaking equipment.
