Can Feixes Negre Tradició (2009) - "Deep red. Smoke- and mineral-accented aromas of dried cherry, pipe tobacco, succulent herbs and cracked pepper on the pungent nose. Lithe and seamless in texture, offering gently sweet red fruit and spicecake flavors that slowly turn spicier on the back half. A sexy floral note appears on the persistent, focused finish, which is given shape by smooth, barely perceptible tannins. There's something distinctly Bordeaux-like happening here and the wine is ready to drink."

Can Feixes Negre Tradició (2009) - "Mature fruit aromas and grit make for a rough and tough nose that's interesting but also a touch mulchy and dirty. A flush, loaded palate is pulpy and heavy, while this Penedès blend tastes of blackberry and pepper. On the finish, heat and licorice notes rise up. Drink now - this will not improve."

Can Feixes Negre Tradició (2009) - "A classical red blend, the 2009 Negre Tradició is a generously oaked mixture of Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot from a warm and dry year that delivered a ripe wine. It matured in 225-liter French oak barrels for 14 months. What is quite amazing is that the wine is kept in bottle for seven years before it's sold. After all this time, the wine is still offered at a low price. The wine is still quite oaky, with a Bordeaux-like profile and classical aromas of herbs, berries, and generous spices and smoke. It has a polished palate with resolved tannins and a clean, serious profile. It still feels quite young - it has freshness and is quite round. 52,981 bottles and 756 magnums produced."

Can Feixes Negre Tradició (2008) - "This ruby red Spanish wine opens with a mild blueberry bouquet with hints of black cherry and new leather. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and savory. The flavor profile is an austere tart black cherry with notes cranberry, boysenberry, and minerality. There is also some oak nicely intertwined throughout. The finish is dry and its flavors and moderate grippy tannins drifts away nicely. This wine is food friendly and would pair nicely with a cast-iron skillet fried skirt steaks with shallot butter. Enjoy – Ken"

Can Feixes Negre Tradició (2007) - "This dark ruby colored Spanish red opens with a pleasant black raspberry bouquet with hints of plum and wet stone. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, slightly acidic and rather juicy. The flavor profile is a lively ripe black plum with notes of nicely integrated minerality and hints of blackberry and black licorice. The finish is dry and its modest mild tannins do not get in the way. This very nice wine would pair well with a tangy pulled pork sandwich or a traditional Cuban sandwich. Enjoy."

Can Feixes Negre Tradició (2007) - "The 2007 Can Feixes Negre Tradició (formerly "Negre Selecció") is a blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot aged for 12 months in oak with 20% new. The reticent nose is difficult to appraise, though with aeration it offers subtle iodine and even a little seaweed. The palate has a rather hard entry with unyielding, chalky tannins. Firm and masculine, the Cabernet Sauvignon lends it a sturdy backbone and a slightly austere finish. This is a well-made wine, albeit one that is rather aloof. Drink 2013-2017."

Can Feixes Negre Tradició (2007) - "Ruby-red.  Cherry, pipe tobacco, musky earth and rose on the nose, with a hint of cracked pepper in the background.  Offers chewy dark berry and bitter cherry flavors that show good energy and spiciness.  Silky tannins give shape and grip to the smoky, nicely persistent finish.  Give this wine a little time in a decanter."

Overview: Estate founded in 1768 by Don Jaime Feixes and acquired from Feixes descendants by the Huguet family in the late-19th century. Unchanged in boundary since its original founding, Can Feixes is over 1,000 acres of mountainside terrain, the highest vineyard estate in the region at over 1,400 feet.

History: The historic Can Feixes estate is situated on gravelly slopes above the 400-meter level in an amphitheater at the tree line near the famous Montserrat pinnacle, which forms Penedès' northern boundary. The farthest Penedès vineyard from the Mediterranean, temperature variation here is more Continental in its extremes, the drier climate more conducive to grape health. The altitude and mountain terrain constitute the tiny viticultural home of the Parellada variety, locally known as Montonec ("grape of the mountain"). Recognized as the region's Grand Cru, Can Feixes sells the majority of its grapes and a large portion of the fermented wines as well. Only the best grapes, and subsequently the best wines, are kept for production under the family label. Total vineyard area of approximately 120 hectares (300 acres) is planted to Parellada (Montonec), Macabeo, Chardonnay, Tempranillo, and Cabernet, with small amounts of Pinot Noir. Vineyard plantation at Can Feixes is documented back to the year 1400, registered by Sr. Jaume Feixes. The estate has continuously produced wine since 1690, the Huguet family acquiring the property following an interruption in descendency at the turn of the 20th century. Today's modern bodega includes subterranean aging cellars with pupitres for manual riddling of the Huguet Brut, bottle storage and oak cooperage for the aging of red wine. Viticulture and enology are handled respectively by brothers Joan and Josep María Huguet. Only free-run must from rigorously selected grapes is used. Bottled production averages 6,000 cases per year depending on vintage, including a fragrant, firm and minerally dry white (Can Feixes Blanc Selecció) and superb CAVA.
